Learning Through Play
At Kidz Magic, we believe children learn best when they feel safe, curious and free to explore. Learning through play means giving children meaningful opportunities to discover, imagine, problem-solve and connect with others in ways that feel natural and joyful.
Through play, children build important skills across every area of development – from language, creativity and early maths, to confidence, resilience, social skills and independence. Our educators gently guide and extend each child’s play, creating rich learning moments while honouring their interests, ideas and individual pace.
What is Learning Through Play?
Learning through play is a purposeful approach to early education where children learn through hands-on experiences, curiosity and discovery. Rather than being told how the world works, children are encouraged to investigate, experiment, ask questions and try out ideas in meaningful ways.
This supports early childhood development by strengthening communication, problem-solving, imagination, independence and relationships. As children play, they learn to make choices, manage emotions, work with others and build confidence in their own abilities.
Our Approach
At Kidz Magic, play-based learning is woven into everyday experiences that are thoughtfully planned, child-led and supported by caring educators. Children are encouraged to learn through hands-on exploration, meaningful conversations, creativity and connection with others.
These play-based experiences include:
Imaginative and role play
Creating shops, homes, kitchens, recreating environments and stories from books, using familiar household items to inspire play
Sensory Play
Sand, water, playdough, natural materials and loose parts
Block and construction play
Building towers, roads, bridges, and small worlds
Outdoor Play
Climbing, running, balancing, digging, gardening and nature play
Creative arts and music
Painting, drawing, dancing, singing, making and moving
Early Literacy
Reading stories, counting objects, sorting, measuring and pattern-making
Invitations to Play
Thoughtfully arranged materials that invite children to explore, make choices and follow their interests.
Cultural Exploration
Dancing, singing, storytelling, art, traditional clothing and roleplay
Our Why
At Kidz Magic, play is purposeful and powerful. It gives children the freedom to explore, create, communicate and solve problems in ways that feel natural and meaningful to them.
This approach is strongly supported by the Early Years Learning Framework V2.0, which recognises play-based learning as a key practice in early childhood education. Through play, children build relationships, test ideas, develop new understandings and strengthen skills across all areas of development.
Our educators bring intention to these moments by observing children’s interests, asking thoughtful questions and gently extending their thinking. This reflects guidance from ACECQA, as well as broader early childhood research, which shows that guided play is especially valuable when children’s curiosity is supported by warm, responsive educators.
In practice, this means we do not take over children’s play. We nurture it, enrich it and help each child grow as a confident, capable and curious learner.
